California on Fire is a 25-minute cinematic video artwork that examines grief through the lens of catastrophic destruction intersecting with time. To create it, Frost trained as a wildland firefighter, gained full access to more than 90 wildfires, and shot half a million high-resolution photographs over nine years. The project received coverage and praise from Artnet, National Geographic, PBS Newshour, and the New York Times and has been featured in over 40 museums, as well as many exhibitions and film festivals worldwide.
The images in this gallery are selected from time-lapse photography ‘scenes’ and are available as unique limited prints.
