California on Fire, 2019
Single-channel 4K video (color, sound), 24:50
Time-lapse photography, video, electromagnetic spectrum field recording
This film is structured on the stages of grief and goes all the way to the fireline to witness catastrophic destruction intersecting with time, where the land itself is the main character. To create it, I trained as a wildland firefighter, gained full access to more than 90 wildfires, and shot half a million high-resolution photographs over nine years.
The project was praised by Artnet, National Geographic, PBS Newshour, and the New York Times and has been featured in museums, exhibitions, and film festivals worldwide.
Images selected from time-lapse photography sequences and are available as unique limited prints.
